Principal Financial Group Sales Director – Liability Driven Investment (LDI) in New York, New York

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Sales Director to join our Liability Driven Investments team. In this role, you’ll drive growth and strengthen our presence in the defined benefit pension asset management market!

  • Sales Leadership and Market Development: Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow the LDI business, focusing on acquiring new clients and deepening relationships with existing ones in the corporate defined benefit pension market

  • Client Relationship Management: Leverage existing relationships and build new ones with key decision-makers including CFOs, Treasurers, and Pension Fund Managers

  • Collaboration and Thought Leadership: Work closely with the investment, product development, and marketing teams to ensure alignment of sales strategies with the overall business objectives and to tailor solutions that meet client needs. Represent the company at industry conferences, events, and client meetings

  • Negotiation and Closing: Lead contract negotiations and close sales agreements

  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on sales performance metrics, providing regular updates to senior management and adjusting strategies as necessary

This position is available remote with extensive travel.

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of sales experience in the institutional asset management industry, with a strong focus on Liability Driven Investment (LDI) solutions

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field

  • Comprehensive knowledge of defined benefit in public and private pension plans, and the challenges and opportunities in the LDI market

  • Established network of contacts within the defined benefit pension community, including key decision-makers

  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, with strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • May require licensing based on state/federal laws and/or company policy in accordance with current licensing policy

  • Actuarial, MBA or CFA designation

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively research, analyze and synthesize information. Must be detail oriented and a self-starter, willing to take initiative, and drive projects forward

  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint applications

  • Seeking an individual with a collaborative approach, who has strong problem solving, project management, presentation, and has foresight to separate real client opportunities from false positives

  • Seeking a seasoned individual in the investment consulting space who is ambitious, has a strong work ethic, professional disposition, creative approach, and willingness to challenge the status quo

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, influence stakeholders, and build strong relationships with current and prospective clients and internal teams across the Principal organization

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$174000 - $236000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
