MUST BE PERMANET IN THE CIVIL SERVICE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE TITLE OR IF YOU ARE HIRED PROVISIONALLY AS A CLERICAL ASSOCIATE, YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT.

The New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) provides temporary help to individuals and families with social service and economic needs to assist them in reaching self-sufficiency via essential and diverse programs/services, such as: temporary Cash Assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), childcare, eviction prevention services, adult protective services, job training, employment plans/support, domestic violence assistance, child support enforcement, etc. The employees of Employment & Support Services Administration- Career Services help provide unique individual services to eligible New Yorkers aimed towards the achievement of long-term self-sufficiency.

Business Link is a division of the New York City Human Resources Administration. Business Link is responsible for matching employers with jobseekers who have the skills that employers are seeking; provides free job placement services; hosts job fairs, maintains a repository of job seekers and offers alerts by text message through its TEXT2Work program. Business Link is the recruitment arm of the agency and works closely with the community and employers to fill job orders, provide free job placement, and offer subsidized job training opportunities to Cash Assistance recipients and low-income individuals in New York City.

The Career Services is recruiting for one (1) Clerical Associate II to function as Receptionist/Data Entry Clerk.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Receptionist/DE Clerk performs general clerical duties, greets arrivals in the Business Link office and schedules public assistance recipients for Business Link services. The Receptionist/Data Entry Clerk interacts with those requesting Business Link services over the phone and in person, ensuring the participants have the knowledge that they need to pursue job openings with Business Link employers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Screens and monitors incoming calls from public assistance recipients, provides information regarding current Business Link job openings and transfers or refers calls as necessary.

  • Schedules public assistance recipients for pre-screening appointments at Business Link.

  • Data enters information regarding public assistance recipients who sign up for a job specific pre-screening. Data enters client information for special projects.

  • Pre-interviews and processes participants, filling out necessary paperwork and ensuring they have necessary documentation when they arrive at Business Link for their pre- screening sessions.

  • Maintains client informational bulletin boards and flyers advertising job openings with private sector employers.

  • Maintains Business Link's toll-free 24/7 job listings in Spanish and English by ensuring information is correct and current.

  • Assists support staff in administering typing tests for participants as necessary.

Correct Salary Range: $36,971- $ $42,517

Work Location: 123 William Street New York, NY 10038

Hours/Schedule: Monday to Friday 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM Flex

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement

Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
