Overview

The Project Specialist serves to develop and implement key Safety programs and initiatives on a company-wide basis, while also providing support and counsel as a subject matter expert in assigned safety and health-related subject matter areas. This individual applies strong leadership and interpersonal skills along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities to achieve required results and contribute to a positive, team-spirited safe work culture.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Serve as the company's subject matter expert (SME) in key Safety areas including but not limited to: Provide day-to-day advice and counsel on various safety issues, inquiries and OSHA-related items; regularly review injury/illness reports to ensure accuracy; coordinate safety meetings; prepare, monitor and share monthly reports to communicate safety performance data; coordinate special projects, internal and external benchmarking and other safety-related efforts.
  • Remain current with pending regulatory, company program, and operating process changes related to Safety, and proactively identify and evaluate potential impacts, responses and remedial actions as necessary.
  • Facilitate compliance and promote continuous improvement through the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Proactively interact with key internal customers and external stakeholders to identify best practices and improvement opportunities.
  • Identify, plan, develop, and implement improvements related to safety processes.
  • Prepare reports and supporting materials to communicate regulatory updates, compliance issues, performance trends, incident analyses, etc.
  • Manage and analyze performance metrics in assigned subject matter areas to identify key trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and assess company-wide safety initiatives and activities to identify, communicate and expand upon best practices as appropriate.
  • Prepare and present topic-appropriate materials to communicate safety related information and requirements to both field and management personnel.
  • Direct and/or provide immediate response to incidents on a 24x7 basis in accordance with a duty schedule and initiate/support event-related investigations and analyses.
  • Demonstrate ongoing development in the knowledge of safety, health, and associated operating principles, as well as technical and regulatory subject matter in assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate a strong Commitment to Excellence and understanding of the vital importance assigned to personal accountability and deliver exemplary customer service.
  • Serve as a strong Safety Leader who exemplifies professionalism and integrity, while enthusiastically promoting a safety conscious mindset throughout the organization.
  • Perform other related tasks/assignments and support other subject matter areas as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and Four (4) years relevant work experience or
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Industrial Hygiene/Safety, Science or a technical discipline preferred.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 2 years Experience in health and safety program development/management, operations leadership, and/or other technical discipline. Required
  • Functional expertise in the underlying regulatory bases and technical principles of Con Edison's safety-related procedures and instructions. Required
  • Influence and persuasion skills, and ability to initiate/champion change Required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Required
  • Understanding of root cause analysis techniques and data analysis principles Required
  • Operational familiarity with the practices and requirements of Con Edison's service commodities. Required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. Required
  • Prior experience managing safety-related subject matter areas, or working knowledge of associated Federal, State, and local requirements. Preferred
  • Broad familiarity with OSHA and other workplace safety-related requirements. Preferred
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Preferred
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to provide off hours support as required.

Minimum Salary: 105000.00 Maximum Salary: 145000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
