New York University Project Coordinator/Advocacy Coordinator (Full-Time) in New York, New York

Drs. Shabnam Javdani and Erin Godfrey are seeking a project coordinator to provide assistance in advocacy supervision and support on Resilience, Opportunity, Strength, Education, Safety (ROSES) Advocacy Program. ROSES is a community-based program pairing girls and LGB/TGNC youth experiencing school pushout or who have had police, probation, or court contact with a highly trained advocate. ROSES advocates work with young people in their communities free of charge to support them in their own self determined goals. Advocates work with and on behalf of their clients for 8-10 hours per week, for 10-15 weeks, working with clients by providing access to resources and education, helping girls and young people define individual goals, supporting the development of self-efficacy skills, encouraging girls' and LGB/TGNC youths' engagement with multiple social contexts (school, family, peer, etc.) and promoting contextual competence to reduce school pushout, and child welfare and legal system involvement. Additionally, the RISE team is also a designated Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (OOPP), allowing for dissemination and training of life saving harm reduction strategies to youth, families, and community members. The primary goal of the Advocacy Coordinator will be to collaborate with members of the Advocacy Team to train and supervise advocates with strong model fidelity, support the program outreach and engagement efforts, collaborate across settings and systems within and outside of NYU, and monitor and track program implementation and fidelity. A secondary goal will be to support the dissemination and implementation of the ROSES model to new sites, and of the OOPP to new participants. A third goal will be to coordinator administrative tasks across sub-projects in order to improve communication and quality control across systems and processes.

Specific responsibilities of the Advocacy Coordinator will include:

  • Collaborate to build, train, lead, and supervise the advocacy team, composed of both undergraduate and graduate students at NYU.

  • Develop and implement training activities that foster critical consciousness and advocacy mastery among the intervention team.

  • Develop, manage and maintain strong working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders in the child welfare and juvenile legal systems to promote their active engagement with the ROSES program.

  • Supervise the advocacy team during multiple weekly supervision sessions; maintain advocacy calendars; respond to individual requests for support from advocates, clients, and their families; and implement adaptive and creative responses to address shifting team needs.

  • Coordinate recruitment of advocates and referrals of young people; work closely with the supervision staff and PIs, ensure smooth interactions between NYU departments, referring agencies, young people and their families.

  • Develop and utilize data management systems to track advocacy needs and activities, adherence or deviation from program framework.

  • Establish feedback mechanisms to maintain responsiveness towards advocates, young people and families, in coordination with study PIs, the lead ROSES supervisor, and the advocacy team.

  • Devise swift troubleshooting mechanisms for emergent issues that affect the quality and sustainability of the program.

  • Synthesize and translate insights from across interventions into accessible communiction materials that educate and inform referring agencies, young people and families about the program and the challenges of school pushout and legal system involvement.

  • Manage the implementation and dissemination of OOPP harm reduction strategies for key stakeholders across the RISE team.

  • Draft materials to support the dissemination of the ROSES model to new sites; develop, learn, and execute implementation of a Train the Trainer (TTT) model.

  • Refine and develop cross project protocols to coordinate onboarding, off boarding, and effective overal project management.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000-$55,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully in-person.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in community-based outreach and interventions that support individuals from minoritized and often-excluded racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, and gener backgrounds; working knowledge or a strong desire to learn about the needs of youth in child welfare and juvenile legal settings in New York City with a focus on girls and LGBT and gender expansive youth; a strong desire to build, train, and support a team of advocates; and will be enthusiastic about coordinating with the lead ROSES supervisor, peer supervisors, clients and families in supporting advocacy goals, providing weekly supervision and written feedback to advocates, and providing on-call individualized support to advocates, clients and families. Candidates can expect to collaborate with the existing advocacy team in leadership, cultivate and maintian relationships with supervisors, students, families and youth enrolled in ROSES, and to creatively develop strategies for meeting client's needs and disseminating the program to interested localities. Strong intepersonal and communication skills, dedication to social equity, and clear organizational and project manangement skills are required.
