The Advanced Reasoning Group is hiring a Principal Applied Scientist at Mountain View, CA , Redmond, WA , and New York, NY . The team is responsible for creating and delivering cutting-edge reasoning technologies that drive business outcomes for Microsoft and its customers built on our partnerships across the org. We are looking for a passionate applied scientist to deliver an amazing shopping experience with a strong reasoning agent and knowledge graph backing it up.
In this role you will have the opportunity to solve problems related to LLM-based reasoning agent, shopping, and knowledge graph modeling. Computational Advertising has emerged as a new interdisciplinary field encompassing information retrieval, machine learning, data mining, statistics, operations research, and micro-economics, to address the complex problems inherent in online advertising. Responsibilities
• Participate in design, implementation, and execution across a variety of features regarding data science and machine learning.
• Drive innovations in LLM reasoning, analytics applications, retrieval, ranking and generic Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision (CV) models used in an ads recommender systems.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR equivalent experience
1+ year LLM Generative AI experiences with chatbot, reasoning, or similar technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD with 1+ years of research experience in data science, machine learning and/or related fields.
1+ year of experience developing end to end analytics solutions or ML systems for real world applications.
Experience in knowledge graph building and entity linking is a plus.
Have publications at peer-reviewed Data Science/AI conferences (e.g. KDD-Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, CIKM- Conference on Information and Knowledge Management, SIGIR- Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval, NeurIPS- Neural Information Processing Systems, CVPR- Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, ICML International Conference on Machine Learning, ICLR- International Conference on Learning Representations, ICCV- International Conference on Computer Vision, and ACL- Association for Computational Linguistics).
Applied Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
