Description

The postdoctoral scientist will conduct research with community-based projects among ethnically and educationally diverse participants that focus on biological and social determinants of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) and cognition in mid- and late-life. Research projects will be in close collaboration with faculty members from multiple disciplines, with a major focus on examining neuroimmunology function. The fellow will help with analyses of existing data to begin to develop an independent line of research. Duties include leading experiments, writing peer-reviewed manuscripts, participating in seminars, work groups, collaborating on research grant applications. The fellow will join an ongoing research program and emerging collaboration that examines the phenotype and function of immune cells using blood, CSF, and fresh brain autopsies. The fellow will be expected to publish first-authored manuscripts and prepare grant proposals and collaborate with a productive research team. This fellowship follows a multiple mentorship model and will include exposure to mentors from multiple backgrounds. The salary is competitive and additional support will be provided for travel, research presentations, and research expenses.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience or related field. Candidates must have less than five years' experience post-doctorate, a demonstrated record of individual initiative in research, strong research, skills, and potential to become an independent academic researcher within two to three years. Applicants should have an working knowledge of experimental methods in cellular /molecular immunology. Experience in RNA sequencing is an advantage but is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

Research experience in dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, immunology, cerebrovascular disease, aging biomarkers, cognitive aging, lifecourse social forces on health, health disparities, or neuroimaging is desirable.
