Overview
The Operating Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely completion of gas service line inspections (SLI) and installation/replacement of natural gas detectors (NGD). Also, work with the gas distribution services department (GDS) to coordinate access to customer property for completion of additional inspections of company equipment, as required, in order to provide plus-1 customer experience. These responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with operating procedures, specifications, and requirements of the company and regulatory agencies.Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- The Operating Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely completion of gas service line inspections (SLI) and installation/replacement of natural gas detectors (NGD). Also, work with the gas distribution services department (GDS) to coordinate access to customer property for completion of additional inspections of company equipment, as required, in order to provide +1 customer experience. These responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with operating procedures, specifications, and requirements of the company and regulatory agencies.
- Applicant is expected to become fully Operator Qualified in the SLI/NGD role within 12 months of hire.
- Plan, organize, staff, schedule and ensure the assignment of personnel to optimize productivity and meet operating goals. Must be trained in computer applications such as eGIS, Gas Central, Microsoft Office and Tableau reporting.
- Supervise employees in the completion of gas service line inspections (SLI) and installation/replacement of natural gas detectors (NGD).
- Communicate and advise on work rule compliance, good housekeeping and safe work practices for equipment and work areas, inside and outside of customer premises.
- Monitors compliance with and provides training for Company specifications, policies and procedures e.g., Operations Specifications, Substance Abuse, Productivity and Environmental Instructions.
- Certifies, accounts for and approves expenditures for labor, contractors, material, supplies and equipment within prescribed limits. Also orders, coordinates and ensures availability and timely delivery of materials, supplies and equipment.
- Enforces disciplinary rules and regulations.
- Emphasize professionalism, honesty, concern, excellence, and teamwork within the department.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years full time related work experience in a Con Edison organization or industry organization or
- Associate's Degree and 4 years full time related work experience in a Con Edison organization or industry organization or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years full time related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system; or 5 years full time experience in a related field.
- Experience in the inspection of the gas distribution system. Preferred
- Extensive knowledge in reading M&S plates, interpreting leak history reports, managing mandated work and the scheduling of crews is desirable. Preferred
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with our customers and all levels of management and union personnel. Preferred
- Must have demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to interact and coordinate activities with other departments and organizations. Preferred
- Driver's License Required
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
