Position Summary
The Department of Neurology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Neuro-Oncology Division that provides clinical care for adults with neuro-oncology conditions, mainly primary and metastatic brain tumors. Reporting to the Clinical Manager and working under the supervision of the attending physicians, the Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the evaluation and management of neuro-oncology patients as part of collaborative NP team.
Responsibilities
* Taking medical histories and performing physical examinations with attending physicians, mainly in the outpatient setting but occasionally for inpatients
* Documenting in the medical record and entering, as appropriate, charges for encounters. This may include:
o Collaborative visits with an attending physician
o Visits "incident to" follow-up with an attending physician
o Visits independent of an attending physician
* Coordinating admissions, discharges, and workup of patients; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and managing patients by telephone as appropriate; seeing selected patients in routine follow-up appointments, and for urgent same or next-day office visits under the supervision of an attending physician
* Synchronization and documentation of ongoing chemotherapy as an outpatient, and during the transition from inpatient to outpatient and outpatient to inpatient* Coordinating multidisciplinary services
* Coordinating and facilitating patient education
* Collaborating with other team members including residents, fellows, administrative staff, social worker, and research team (including research nurses from the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center)
* Occasional coverage for other Divisions in Neurology depending on need
* Other additional duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of relevant nursing experience.
* Must have current New York State Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses.
* Must have NP Board Certification.
* Must be able to meet New York-Presbyterian Hospital credentialing requirements, prior to starting.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience as a nurse practitioner and/or experience in outpatient care in an academic medical center.
* New graduates with strong background in ICU or neurology or oncology nursing as a registered nurse are welcome to apply.
* Fluency in Spanish and New Jersey/Connecticut licensures a plus.
