JOB TITLE : Manager – General and Technical Accounting-MNR

SALARY RANGE : $99,000 - $109,000

HAY POINTS : 588

SUPERVISOR : Senior Manager – General and Technical Accounting

LOCATION : 420 Lexington Ave

HOURS OF WORK : 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (8 hours/day)

DEADLINE : Open until filled

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY :

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the general ledger accounting close processes for Metro-North Railroad. This position will be preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations and variance analysis. In addition, this position will support the preparation of financial reporting and support the financial statement audits.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.

  • Ensure general ledger accounts are analyzed and reconciled on a timely basis. Coordinates with operating departments to obtain support of general ledger accounts and transactions. Maintain a copy of all reconciliations in an organized manner along with a log summarizing the status of the analysis/ reconciliations. Highlight and work to resolve outstanding reconciling items.

  • Review account trends, perform account analysis and reconciliation. Coordinate with other departments to provide explanations to monthly/quarterly account variances.

  • Support the monthly close by preparing journal entries with adequate support. Generate, review and reconcile reports.

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of FTA’s NTD reporting.

  • Provide accounting support in the preparation of MTA’s quarterly and year-end footnotes and financial statements.

  • Provide information and documents requested for external and internal audits.

  • Review and process monthly settlement/payment of inter-agency balances with all agencies.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned, including the implementation of new accounting standards and other new reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Minimum 5 years related experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with financial systems

    Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college and/or CPA Certification.

  • At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role.

  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
