New York University Junior Laboratory Associate - Onyenedum Lab in New York, New York

The Junior Laboratory Associate will operate as a researcher leading projects and as the lab manager. On the research front, the Junior Laboratory Associate will be responsible for assisting and leading research in the lab, primarily related to NSF Grant # 2237046 CAREER: Unraveling the Developmental Processes Underlying the Twining Motion of Vines.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection to support ongoing research projects, including the generation and analysis of anatomical, morphological, and molecular data.

  • Establish and maintain lab standards and protocols through various managerial roles including growing and caring for plants, maintenance of the lab inventories, ordering supplies and receiving supplies and equipment, and training new lab members in protocols.

  • Serving as an author on research projects (e.g. outlining and drafting main text)

  • Serving as a research assistant on other research projects in the lab

Position expectations

The start date is on or around January 15, 2024. This is a one-year position with possible extension if funding is available and subject to successful review. This is a fully in person position. The successful candidate should anticipate regular meetings with Dr. Onyenedum and lab members.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $59,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Required qualifications

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Plant Biology or a related field

  • At least 1 year/2 semesters of research in a laboratory

  • Experience growing and managing plants

  • Strong time and project management skills

  • Ability to work on a team

Preferred skills

  • Working proficiency in coding in R

  • Experience with confocal microscopy

  • Experience with light microscopy
