City of New York IT Security Specialist in New York, New York

Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Information Security team within ITB is a highly specialized group of cyber security professionals tasked to oversee the defense and response of cyber security incidents within NYPD. This includes, but not limited to, user access and controls, vulnerability, scanning, cyber threat intelligence gathering, and incident response.

Job duties include:

  1. Serve on a distributed security and technology team responsible for establishing and maintaining identifies and entitlements within IAM solutions.

  2. Implement identity controls and settings that align with policies and governance structure.

  3. Work closely with security leadership, teammates and shareholders to evaluate and implement access models that align with organizational risk procedure.

  4. Assess and receive IAM issues that occur across the employee data, as well as with accidental entities.

  5. Secure access to both on-prem and cloud infrastructures, as well as to applications required to support a distributed remote workforce.

  6. Evaluate business impact and risk exposure based the level of access granted and make recommendations where improvements should be made.

  7. Work closely with incident responders during potential incidents and escalate to management as needed.

  8. Document access, policies, and exceptions and maintain integrity for audit reviewers.

  9. Review internal, external and contractor accounts as part of periodic audits.

  10. Make recommendations for improvements in automation efficiencies, security practices and user experience.

  11. Collect key performance indicators and related operational metrics, and track SLAs used to validate success as future area of improvement.

  12. Execute tactical requests and support the strategic vision for rigorous and scalable IAM controls.

  13. Maintain understanding of business processes to aid in managing enterprise identify and access.

  14. Frequently interact with business units to understand their plans, risk posture and tolerance, and how IAM supports their visions and business obligations with security in mind.

  15. Implement IAM projects from inception to completion on time and within budget.

3-5+ years of cybersecurity or information technology

2+ Years of related security systems administration with IAM solutions, and preferably some experience with endpoint, network or application security solutions.

2+ years working in or with security operations center and incident response teams.

One or more CISSP, GSEC, GISF, GCIA and GISP is preferable (Proof of Certification Required)

Work Location: 1 Police Plaza and 11 Metro Tech

Work Schedule: M-F 0900-1700 HRS

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full time for a qualifying employer, such as a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization. You may be able to consolidate a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and Federal Perkins Loan into a Direct Loan to qualify for PSLF.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to projects and policies required by the particular position; or,

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
