City of New York IT Operations Team Leader in New York, New York

Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $120,000.00 - $130,000.00.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS' Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for providing high-quality, reliable, and sustainable technology services as well as IT support to meet the needs of the families and children we serve through ACS, its vendor partners, and other City agencies. Within OIT, the Infrastructure and Support Unit provides, manages, and supports the Agency’s technology infrastructure, software, and services. The unit comprises of the Service Desk, IT Technical Support, Production Support, Infrastructure, and Telecom Management.

The IT Operations Team Leader will be responsible for managing and maintaining all activities related to IT Operations. The candidate specific duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Plan, design, install, configure, and support all components of the Data Protection Services infrastructure and Monitoring Services Infrastructure.

  • Ensure that backup and recovery procedures are current, and available for reference to ensure backup jobs are successfully completed by reviewing Daily Backup Reports.

  • Analyze and monitor server resources utilization to ensure optimum storage performance, and alleviate bottlenecks.

  • Ensure all changes to the environment adheres to established change management policies and procedures.

  • Maintain disaster recovery configurations for Wintel infrastructure, perform periodic disaster recovery tests, and store disaster recovery documentation and procedures in support of Wintel and storage architecture.

  • Liaise with Operations Teams from New York City and New York State agencies to ensure proper service delivery for ACS operations.

  • Work closely with various OIT Teams such as Telecommunications, Server and Network Operations, Desktop Support, Database Administrators, and other System Administrators to resolve reported issues.

  • Evaluate new systems and application requirements related to IT Operations.

  • Create and maintain Developed Systems Solutions Architecture Diagrams using MS Visio.

  • Develop Comprehensive Project Plans for IT Operations projects, including timelines and work breakdown structures.

  • Evaluate and recommend Technology Solutions for business needs, including setting up and monitoring system alerts to provide 24x7 support to ensure continuity of IT Operations.

  • Liaise with vendors to troubleshoot technical issues and follow communication protocols for system failures/outages and filing incident reports.

  • Respond to Service Desk tickets for technical support to ensure timely follow up and resolution.

  • Maintain inventory of all hardware implemented on Datacenter and at every Remote Location Intermediate Distribution Facility (IDF).

  • Participate and support in the deployment of Data Circuits for new and existing remote locations.

  • Install and configure Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and Power Distribution Units (PDU) on Main and Intermediate Distribution Facilities (MDF/IDF).

  • Communicate with ACS electrical engineers to ensure environmental conditions for all air conditioning and power units are always in operational condition.

SPECIAL NOTE:

  • Occasional lifting of equipment, transport of equipment, and working in confined spaces (e.g., network closets).

  • Available to work after hours and weekends, as needed.

Qualifications

Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled. In addition, all candidates must have the following:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or

  2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in "1" above; or

  3. A masters degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in "1" above.
