POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months program). Under the direction of the Director of Educational Technology in the department of Medical Education, the IT Academic Technology Specialist will provide administrative support for the educational platforms and technology used by the students and faculty in the CUNY SoM to support the educational mission. This role will ensure the successful administration of courses and learning content while managing user support and system updates.

In additional to the CUNY Title Overview, the IT Academic Technology Specialist duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Serve as the LEO, RedCap, and BLine System Administrator; provide end user support in accordance with the LEO/REDCap environment and governance as established by Director of Educational Technology and CUNY data security protocols; Create and distribute reports on various metrics such as usage, support needs, and general stability of the system.

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Learning Management Systems (LMS); Provide user support for CUNY SoM courses stored within the LMS; Ensure that faculty and designated staff are able to access the course administration to schedule, enroll, grade, report, and assess students or trainees; Upload, organize and maintain CUNY Calendar in the LMS in timely manner when requested.

  • Provide technical support for online exams including but not limited to; NBME, PAEA, Examplify, LEO; Assist course directors in compiling and publishing in-house electronic exams; Provide training and support to deans, faculty, instructors, staff, and students on LMS functionalities;

  • Assist with the development comprehensive project plans, including scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, and timelines; Serve as the primary contact for LEO, RedCap, BLine, and LMS-related inquiries, resolving technical issues and escalate complex matters in a timely manner and when necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Technology or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT, software applications, project management, or other related field with a proven track record of supporting large, complex technology projects.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with LMS implementation and administrative functions.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure, software development, and cybersecurity principles.

  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues and provide technical support.

  • Some experience with managing databases.

  • Experience with CUNYFirst, LEO powered by DaVinci, Blackboard, Brightspace.

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Supports and consults with faculty, students, and others in the use of instructional systems, software, and programs.

  • Provides day-to-day support for users of instructional systems

  • May supervise a College help desk related to academic technology, supervising and training staff

  • Designs, develops, and delivers training and orientation sessions on the use of instructional technologies

  • May serve as an administrator and/or account coordinator for one or more systems

  • Assists in demonstrating the practical application of computers and communications technology for classes and workshops for faculty or students

  • May track problem reports, troubleshoot reported issues, and document resolutions

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range: $79,188 - $90,375
