Citigroup Head of NAM Regulatory Reporting and Client Tax Operations – Wealth in New York, New York
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our NAM Regulatory Reporting and Client Tax Operations team within the Wealth division. The Head of NAM Regulatory Reporting and Client Tax Operations will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end regulatory reporting and tax compliance processes, ensuring alignment with local, regional, and international regulations. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep knowledge of global regulatory frameworks, tax regulations, and the intricacies of wealth management products and client structures. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading high-performing teams, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy: Develop and execute the strategic vision for the NAM Regulatory Reporting and Client Tax Operations, ensuring alignment with the global compliance and risk management framework. Lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of regulatory and tax operations. This role will also be the deputy for the global Head of Regulatory Reporting & Client Tax Operations.
Regulatory Reporting Oversight: Oversee all aspects of regulatory reporting across the NAM, ensuring compliance with key regulations such as FATCA, CRS, Dodd-Frank, Volcker Rule, and local regulatory requirements in various jurisdictions. Ensure accurate and timely submission of all regulatory reports partnering with the enterprise data and regulatory reporting operations team.
Client Tax Operations: Oversee and manage client tax operations, including tax withholding, reconciliations, payments, reporting, and documentation across a diverse range of wealth management products in NAM. Ensure oversight over compliance with tax regulations, including FATCA, CRS, and local tax laws, and drive initiatives to enhance client tax experience in partnership with Citi’s corporate tax and enterprise Tax information reporting team.
Client Tax Services: Oversee and manage client tax services, including client, banking team support in tax matters, tax form expiry, solicitation, refunds of client taxes and tax documentation across a diverse range of wealth management clients & products. Drive initiatives to enhance client tax experience in partnership with the enterprise Tax information reporting team.
Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of professionals across multiple locations, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of regulatory and tax processes.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve operational efficiency across regulatory reporting and client tax operations. Leverage technology to automate processes and minimize risk.
Compliance and Risk Management: Maintain a deep understanding of evolving regulatory and tax landscapes, proactively assessing the impact of changes on the firm’s operations. Collaborate with compliance, legal, and risk management teams to address compliance issues and develop robust controls.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business units, operations, technology, legal, Enterprise Regulatory and Tax Information Reporting, corporate tax, and compliance teams to ensure cohesive regulatory and tax reporting processes. Act as a key liaison with regulators, auditors, and tax authorities as needed.
Data Quality and Analytics: Develop and implement data quality controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of information used for regulatory and tax reporting. Use data analytics to drive insights, identify trends, and enhance decision-making.
Training and Development: Create training programs to enhance the technical and compliance skills of the team, ensuring they are up to date with the latest regulatory and tax requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA, CTA) are highly desirable.
15+ years of experience in regulatory reporting, tax operations, or compliance within the financial services industry, with a strong focus on Wealth Management.
Proven experience in managing teams across multiple locations, with a track record of driving process improvements and operational excellence.
In-depth knowledge of global and regional regulatory frameworks (e.g., FATCA, CRS, Dodd-Frank) and tax compliance requirements specific to wealth management products.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory and tax environments and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and tax authorities.
Proficiency in data analytics tools and tax/regulatory reporting software; experience with automation and digital transformation initiatives is a plus.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, adapting quickly to regulatory changes and business needs.
