This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a motivated Water Resources Engineer with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) experience to join our team. The successful candidate will utilize their professional experience and technical knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, flood risk analyis, mitigation and the NFIP to support a variety of diverse FEMA projects and initiatives. This position will play a key role in supporting contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), including FEMA Region 2 and may be asked to support other contracts as needs arise. This position offers potential for development in a great working environment and the opportunity to apply the latest technology to help our clients solve their most challenging problems. Compensation:

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. Your Impact

Responsibilities include

  • Execute and review hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in support of flood risk analyses

  • Support levee analyses and other mitigation project evaluations

  • Support FEMA NFIP outreach initiatives and engage with stakeholders

  • Prepare and review water resources engineering reports

  • Engage Subject Matter Experts and technical support staff as needed to support FEMA Regional decision making and responses

  • Support hydrologic and hydraulic model inquiries and evaluations

  • Provide flood risk management and mitigation recommendations

  • Collaborate with other FEMA RSC Staff to share best practices

  • Work independently and as part of a team on multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related field with a strong foundation in hydrologic principles and flood risk analyses.

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, floodplain studies, floodplain management, and mitigation.

  • Experience with modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D and 2D, SWMM, and ArcGIS

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of individuals from various backgrounds, including engineers; planners; GIS professionals; federal, tribal, and state government officials; and the public

  • Ability to perform field work/site visits/dam inspections and some travel required.

  • Experience in developing flood maps and knowledge in FEMA flood maps and FIS reports.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification

  • Experience with the NFIP and FEMA’s Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning (MAP) Program

  • Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 20% travel anticipated)
