Neuberger Berman Controller - Registered Private Credit Fund in New York, New York

NB Private Markets is a rapidly growing group within Neuberger Berman with over $120 billion of investor commitments across our private equity fund of funds, secondary investments, co-investment, and direct investment areas, including alternative credit.

NB Specialty Finance (“NBSF”) specializes in a growing private credit strategy (approx. $3bn in AUM), focusing on financing originators of high-yield, short-duration debt, such as consumer and small business loans and receivables. NBSF offers bespoke financing solutions that go beyond the traditional direct lending model, utilizing a diverse array of methods such as asset-backed credit facilities and whole loan acquisitions in addition to corporate debt and equity investments, etc. This flexible and diverse approach enables NBSF to provide tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of their business partners.

NBSF will be launching a 1940 Act registered closed-end private credit fund, offering daily liquidity to both accredited and non-accredited investors, marking the first product of its kind in the NB Private Markets group. This role will report to the SVP and manage the SEC reporting and filings to ensure compliance, and will be involved in hiring, managing, and training junior staff as the funds launch and grow. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, possess a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, and be motivated by the opportunity to create new processes from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep and thorough understanding of existing NBSF funds’ investments, structure, operations and reporting to prepare for the new fund launch

  • Facilitate launch of the 1940 Act registered private credit fund, including the implementation of various technology systems, establishment of control environment, development of accounting/operating policies and procedures as well as compilation of such in a process manual for the newly formed team

  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of all public filings, including but not limited to 10Q, 10K, N-PORT, N-CEN, N-CSR

  • Review daily NAVs, monthly/quarterly financial reporting process, including close packages, allocations, waterfalls, and fund returns; oversee and lead discussions with vendors and third-party service providers (sub-administrator, TA, custodian, valuation firm, etc)

  • Assist in producing quarterly board materials, marketing presentations, and other reporting

  • Monitoring compliance with the SEC and IRS regulatory tests in coordination with legal and tax teams

  • Conduct data analysis on large asset portfolios, performing data reconciliation and calculating portfolio compliance tests, such as portfolio quality and concentration ratios

  • Review management and incentive fee calculations to ensure accuracy

  • Assist in liquidity management including but not limited to cashflow forecasts and budgets, multiple leverage facilities oversight, credit facilities compliance monitoring

  • Respond to investor inquiries regarding fund performance, NAVs, taxes, and other relevant areas

  • Ensure oversight and compliance of fund credit facilities by accurately interpreting agreements and maintaining comprehensive portfolio asset knowledge

  • Handle various ad-hoc requests from senior management, portfolio managers, and investor relations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 7 - 12 years accounting/finance experience; CPA preferred

  • Experience with SEC reporting for Registered Investment Companies required

  • Credit-related product experience required

  • Experience with daily NAV funds a plus

  • Exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, and resourceful

  • Experience designing and implementing new policies and procedures

  • Possesses excellent time management skills to meet daily deliverables; ability to work well in a high-pressure environment

  • Experience managing and training staff

  • Advanced excel skills preferred (macros a plus)

Compensation Details

The salary range for this role is $130,000-$185,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
