WSP USA Construction Technical Lead for Traction Power in New York, New York

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Technical Lead for Traction Power out of our New Rochelle, New York field office. The candidate will be part of a dynamic, national professional project management/construction management organization, that continues to foster careers, and be involved in a mega project that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The candidate will closely collaborate with professional and technical staff including project managers, field engineers, construction tradesmen, railroad operators, and executive management; respond to requests and to produce required documents in a fast-paced environment.

Your Impact

  • Manage subordinate field engineering inspection staff for contract compliance of installation, testing, and commissioning of complex rail systems electrical power components.

  • Responsible for record keeping, correspondence, compiling and delivering of required reports.

  • Oversight of design-builder’s on-site performance, scheduling, effectiveness and quality control.

  • Review and approve field engineer’s inspector’s daily inspection reports in accordance with MTA C&D requirements.

  • Assist in the preparation of Change Orders for overruns, changed conditions and additional work.

  • Log and coordinate responses to the design-builder’s submittals, RFI's, construction work plans (CWP), and shop drawings.

  • Ensure site safety, permit compliance and coordination with ongoing rail operations and other adjacent projects.

  • Coordinate work activities with rail operators and their related forces to support upcoming work and potential impacts. Work with the project managers and design-builder team to minimize disruptions to rail operations and the public.

  • Work collaboratively with other team members including sub-contractor trades, engineering professionals, and infrastructure authorities.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

  • 10 years’ experience with an electrical/track power background in delivery of complex rail projects

  • Experience in inspections of Hi-tension systems and for the commissioning and energization of such systems.

  • Experiences in collaborating with local utility companies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Ability to supervise electrical inspection staff.

  • Ability to review/approve shop drawings, Construction Work Plans, contractor schedules, permit and inspection requirements.

  • Experiences in implementing and commissioning of SCADA systems.

  • Experience with MTA C&D, Amtrak, and Metro North railroads desirable.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with railroad’s force account staff.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Working knowledge of MTA C&D’s ASITE document control tool.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

  • OSHA 30 Certification

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $97,100 - $198,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
