Communications Design Specialist (HEOa)

POSITION DETAILS

The Office of Marketing and Communications at Guttman Community College is seeking a Communications Design Specialist to join our nimble and passionate creative team and assist in advancing the college mission and brand. The specialist will have a strong understanding of branding principles to communicate and reinforce Guttman’s brand standards and ensure compliance across campus. This person maintains high design standards to ensure quality, consistency, and proper use of the College brand. Creativity, efficiency, and flexibility are key to this role.

Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Communications Design Specialist is responsible for the design and production of print materials, digital communications, and promotional items for a variety of audiences, editing and retouching photos and assisting with website maintenance as needed.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Communication Design Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Create original designs for promotional materials such as ads, flyers, one-pagers, brochures, social media, and campus monitor graphics, banners, and branded merchandise in support of the Office of the President and other College offices as well as student recruitment and enrollment initiatives; develop and update logos per brand standards.

  • Format text and templates and source photography for a variety of large-scale College publications, and create accessible PDFs.

  • Set up documents for printing and communicate with external vendors to ensure high-quality print pieces and merchandise.

  • Organize and maintain a digital asset library to ensure proper storage of college logos, photos, and design files.

  • Oversee projects from conception through completion and manage production schedules, ensuring timely completion of projects and liaising with campus offices regarding project details.

  • Participate in branding and marketing presentations and training provided by the Office of Marketing and Communications.

  • Assist with webpage updates using WordPress and other platforms.

  • Perform related tasks to support projects in Communications, Admissions & Recruitment, Development and Alumni/External Affairs, and the President’s Office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft Office suite, particularly PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of HTML and website content management programs, preferably WordPress and Elementor.

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a broad group of stakeholders and gain buy-in on ideas and designs.

  • Be detail oriented and possess extensive editing abilities.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides design and production expertise for College publications, written materials, and multi-media communications.

  • Works with department and other College administrators to assess departmental publication needs and determine appropriate production and design elements

  • Participates in planning communications messages, graphic elements, and formats appropriate to client requirements

  • Manages production schedules and budgets, coordinating production activities with internal and external personnel

  • Plans and implements on-line and multimedia communications, coordinating with Information Technology professionals as needed

  • Supervises staff both creative and production staff; works with College print shop, computer center, and other departments to ensure support of college publication needs

  • May oversee equipment inventories and coordinate maintenance of specialized equipment and technology

  • Develops production workflows, policies and standards, and assures adherence to any internal or external communications standards

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$68,004 - $75,465; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
