New York University Clinical Instructor | APA Aesthetic Suite Laboratory in New York, New York

NYU College of Dentistry is seeking for an ideal candidate to fill the role of full time (5 days) master dental ceramist. The College is currently establishing the Apa Aesthetic Suite at the College, a state-of-the-art clinical space and the first permanent home for aesthetic dentistry education at NYU.

The Apa Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetic Dentistry allows US and foreign-trained dentists to improve their clinical skills and knowledge in the field of aesthetic dentistry. This full-time, one-year program strongly emphasizes clinical exposure, with students working on real patients under faculty supervision and didactic training focusing on modern esthetic treatment methods.

The Master Dental Ceramist will be responsible for teaching and training students in dental ceramic techniques, facilitating hands-on sessions, and contributing to curriculum development. The position requires expertise in dental ceramics, digital dentistry, a passion for teaching, and the ability to create high-quality aesthetic restorations. The Master Dental Ceramist will also manages daily activities in the APA Aesthetic Suite Laboratory, including quality control, ensuring adherence to standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness. The Master Dental Ceramist will set and monitor production goals and develop/analyze metrics for leadership to assess laboratory effectiveness; instruct and collaborate with providers (student and faculty) on techniques, protocols, and aesthetics; and effectively manage dental laboratory cases.

Principal duties include the following:

Teaching and Training:

  • Conduct hands-on training sessions for students, providing instruction on dental ceramic techniques.

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive lessons on aesthetic principles, digital dentistry, shade matching, and restoration design.

Curriculum Development :

  • Assist in the development and enhancement of the APA Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetic Dentistry curriculum.

  • Create educational materials, presentations, and demonstrations.

Laboratory Work:

  • Fabricate dental restorations, including crowns, veneers, and bridges, with a focus on achieving optimal aesthetic outcomes.

  • Collaborate with students during practical sessions, offering guidance and support.

  • Identify compliance/safety issues and develop written remedial policies and procedures; Manage operational activities of the Apa Aesthetic Suite laboratory. Oversee the operation of equipment. Determine when equipment needs to be serviced or re calibrated by vendors. Analyze lab processes to identify inefficiency and develop remedial interventions to improve functioning and productivity of the lab. Develop metrics to track lab activities. Interpret data and create reports for leadership on laboratory activities.

Collaboration:

  • Apply knowledge of digital dentistry, dental materials, aesthetic options, planning process to advise and collaborate with providers on the optimal approach to dental laboratory projects. Collaborate with fellow instructors, dental professionals, and industry experts

  • Participate in interdisciplinary projects and initiatives within the community.

Research and Innovation :

  • Stay abreast of advancements in dental ceramics and esthetic dentistry.

  • Contribute to the program's commitment to innovation through research projects or case studies.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $170K - $200K. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Dental Technology or a related field. Certification as a Master Dental Ceramist or relevant professional accreditation. Preferably DDS or equivalent

Required Experience: 3 years Experience in teaching, laboratory management and digital dentistry
