The Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in Arabic language instruction. This is a three-year teaching position with a load of 6 courses per year (3 per semester) with multi-year renewals contingent on successful reviews. Pending administrative and budgetary approval the appointment will begin in September 2023.

The Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies is an interdisciplinary department offering an array of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hindi, and Urdu language courses to undergraduate and graduate students. We seek a scholar whose teaching and research will strengthen our Arabic language curriculum ranging from Elementary to Advanced levels, while also complementing and enhancing the department overall. A successful applicant will demonstrate experience in and commitment to innovative pedagogical practices and developing an inclusive classroom.

Candidates must have:

1- A minimum of a Master’s degree in TAFL, Arabic Language and Literature, Second language acquisition, applied linguistics or a related field.

2- Experience teaching Modern Standard Arabic at college level and developing pedagogical materials and incorporating technological innovations into the curriculum.

3- Experience in teaching colloquial Arabic, preferably Shami dialect.

4- Experience in teaching college level heritage learners.

5-Training in ACTFL or CEFR proficiency guidelines and experience in foreign language proficiency based instruction, preferably with a rater or tester certification.
