Overview
The Office of Advising for the NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study is searching for two First-Year Class Advisers to:
- Advise approximately 130 first-year Gallatin students with the goal of enhancing their academic experience and retaining them as students
- Lead 5-7 biweekly advising recitation sections each semester
- Develop strategies to ensure that students are able to complete degree programs
- Provide timely and appropriate advisement; monitor academic progress; discuss requirements and electives; evaluate and approve degree requirement petitions for program completion; identify and provide resources for students at risk
- Collaborate with and support faculty teaching required first-year courses
- Work with the Director of First-Year Experience to develop and implement workshops to support the academic program, foster community, and encourage student leadership
- Work with the Office of Community Engagement to plan events and excursions to promote student flourishing and belonging
- Collaborate with other Class Advisers and the Offices of Community Engagement and Student Life, Student Services, and Student Affairs on graduation, orientation, and other school-wide events
- Teach one course per academic year
- Start date in May 2025

Responsibilities
Required Education:
Doctoral Degree ABD (All But Dissertation)
Preferred Education:
Doctoral Degree Ph.D. strongly preferred
Required Experience:
3+ years 3 years of relevant increasingly responsible professional level experience including experience with academic advising, developing policies and procedures, teaching, and staff supervision or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years Experience counseling students. Previous experience working with first-year students in a college or university setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership and planning skills. Knowledge of spreadsheet software.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with interdisciplinary programs. Working knowledge of Excel.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $76,000.00 to USD $96,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
