Microsoft Corporation Business Manager in New York, New York

We are hiring a Business Manager for the team supporting the US East & Gulf Coasts Engineering and Research Community consisting of nine sites: Cambridge, MA; New York, New York, Pittsburgh, PA, Washington, DC; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; Houston, TX; Austin, TX.

We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious individual to drive impact at scale, advocate a One Microsoft and One Engineering mindset, and serve as a champion for our employees across the East & Gulf Coasts region. This is a unique career opportunity for a business manager that combines business insights, internal/external communications, community partnerships, and leadership in employee experience.

This role will shape Microsoft’s engineering strategy and the experience of our employees located at our US East & Gulf Coasts sites. The Business Manager will support:

  • Internal employee experience across all engineering teams and roles , including site morale, employee resource groups, employee education programs, local training for research and engineering disciplines, growth series, executive speakers series, Giving campaign, and minor changes to physical spaces

  • External community engagement , including engagement with non-profits, hackathons, meetups, conferences, university engagement and partnerships, open houses, and expanded STEM pipeline

  • Connect ion with local engineering talent through events and partnerships to grow the front-of-funnel , including leading events to connect with prospective candidates and raise awareness of Microsoft’s presence in the region.

  • Operational excellence, including maintaining a healthy and well-run rhythm of the business (ROB), documentation and artefact creation, collation and sharing of best practices, budget management, and preparation of meeting agendas and materials.

This position partners closely with site leaders and business program managers across the nine sites located within the US East Coast & Gulf Coasts region, human resources, recruiting, corporate communications, and more. This person will help develop and drive scalable programming, deliver on a plan for engaging the region’s ecosystems, and shape an innovation culture.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: 

  • Maintain (and evolve as necessary) the rhythm of the business (RoB) that drives execution of core business priorities and encourages best practice sharing among the sites.

  • Support and participate in strategic initiatives or cross-group projects contributing to the overall strategy. Create and implement accurate plans. Develop success metrics and programmatic approach for these initiatives and projects.

  • Partner with corporate communications and local teams to deliver on an internal communication (meetings, presentations, milestones, etc.) and external communication (university engagement, customer, partner, PR, etc.) strategy that reinforces Microsoft’s values, brand, and presence in the region.

  • Partner with leaders, HR, Microsoft Garage, and Employee Resource Groups to shape and influence a positive, inclusive, and innovative culture across the region.

  • Maintain relationships with peers outside the team to ensure cross-group strong collaboration and serve as strategic advisor to the regional community.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 4+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with distributed teams

  • Experience managing budget equal to or greater than $500,000

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 3+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 6+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Business Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
