WSP USA Associate Consultant, Water Resources Engineering in New York, New York

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Water Resources Engineer to join our growing NYC Water Team to work out of our One Penn Plaza, NY office, to support our community focused, equitable and future ready water resources projects regionally and nationwide. You will be involved in a variety of projects with our Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop computer models utilizing simulation software to analyze flow conditions and terrain characteristics.

  • Assist with performing basic professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, culvert/open channel/bridge hydraulics, canal development, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources.

  • Utilize GIS to manage bathymetry, topography, and various datasets.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.

  • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental issues.

  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and visual materials for client communication

  • Engage in client meetings to contribute your insights and findings

  • Employ digital tools like SharePoint and PowerBI to enhance collaboration among team members and clients

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.

  • 1-3 years of relevant post-education experience.

  • Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.

  • Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional local travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, and/or HEC-HMS

Compensation

Expected Salary: $65,400 - $107,910

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
