Description

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) of Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health seeks applicants for two tenure-track faculty positions, one in Health Economics and/or Quantitative Health Policy and the second in the Economics of Public Health. Both positions are at the Assistant Professor level, beginning on or about 09/01/2025.

For the Health Economics and/or Quantitative Health Policy position we seek innovative scholars who conduct outstanding quantitative research in health policy and/or health care economics. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active independent research portfolio with the potential to make significant contributions to their policy area of interest. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellence in teaching and would play an important role in advising students and teaching health economics, research methodology, and/or health policy at the master's level.

For the Economics of Public Health position, we seek innovative scholars who conduct outstanding research, either quantitative or qualitative, in the economics of the nation's public health system, with a particular focus on the relationship between the nation's public health sector and the other participants in the nation's public health system. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellence in teaching topics in the economics of the U.S. public health system and will be an important addition to the Center for Public Health Systems, now being created within HPM.

Successful candidates will be joining one of the first Health Policy and Management programs in the country. Founded in 1945 and situated within a leading school of public health, HPM has a long history of participation in research, teaching, and service designed to produce more effective, efficient, and equitable health systems. HPM's multidisciplinary faculty blend research and education on the development, implementation, and evaluation of health policies and the administrative functioning of health systems and organizations. As a department and faculty, we maintain close ties with Columbia's Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, College of Physicians and Surgeons, and School of International and Public Affairs, as well as with many healthcare delivery and research institutions in the New York area and beyond.

We encourage graduating doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and current assistant professors with a doctoral degree in economics, health policy, public health, or a closely related degree to apply.
