Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Alumni Relations Coordinator in our Marketing department reporting directly to the Director of Alumni Relations and Client Engagement.

The position offers hybrid work capabilities and resides in the New York office.

The Alumni Relations Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Director in enhancing and executing a firmwide alumni relations program, including assessing ongoing efforts, recommending improvements and effectively branding and marketing the program to firm alumni and internal stakeholders. The Alumni Relations Coordinator should ideally have some knowledge of and experience with professional services alumni programs. The position will coordinate the development and execution of Alumni Relations engagement strategies, initiatives and projects to support the identification and evaluation of connections and targets for new business development, recruiting and other opportunities.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Work with the Director to implement the alumni relations strategy in support of the firm’s goals and objectives.

  • Assist in the enhancement of the off-boarding process, tracking departures in order to ensure accurate data collection, identify departure trends, track requests for alumni activity and develop recommendations for responsive programming.

  • Ensure alumni contact data is systematically gathered, validated, and maintained in the firm's customer relations management software system, InterAction.

  • Analyze and distill alumni data to provide actionable intelligence for the firm’s attorneys, practices, offices, marketing and business development teams, and additional business services teams.

  • Track metrics; prepare reports and updates as needed.

  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for alumni-related information and data to assist in the identification of business development, recruiting and other opportunities.

  • Work with team members to execute alumni initiatives and outreach efforts including regional and global events, internal and external communications, campaigns and social media that will support the objectives of the program and firm.

  • Assist in the creation of internal and external marketing materials that clearly articulate the program’s value proposition, benefits and goals.

  • Oversee all aspects of the alumni website including overall functionality, content creation, and proactively suggesting ideas to make the site a valuable resource for both internal and external constituencies.

  • Assist in the creation and execution of the program’s social media strategy.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • At least 2 years of business development, marketing, alumni relations, journalism or related experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services organization

  • Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and adjust to changing priorities in a flexible, professional manner while providing a solutions-oriented approach to ensure user satisfaction

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills, familiarity with AP style guidelines, adherence to firm style guide and templates, and ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the firm

  • Excellent at manipulating and analyzing data with Excel

  • Familiarity with CRMs (i.e. InterAction), email marketing systems (i.e. Vuture) and CMSs (i.e. PeoplePath) preferred

  • Social media savvy

  • Ability to work independently, as a member of teams, and with colleagues located in different offices

  • Confident and approachable manner when communicating with senior levels at the firm

  • Desire to proactively seek out and disseminate additional information and analysis, beyond that which may have been requested

  • Creativity of thought when seeking solutions, collaborating with stakeholders and working towards the firm’s common goals

  • Energetic and highly-motivated work ethic, strong service orientation and the desire to constantly seek out ways to improve knowledge and processes

  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within the department, practice groups, office and firm as well as with alumni, clients, vendors and others outside the firm

  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary to fulfill responsibilities
