New York University Adjunct Faculty - Music Theory in New York, New York

The NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions (MPAP) Music Theory program seeks a qualified candidate to teach 1–2 core undergraduate music theory and/or aural skills courses for the Fall 2024 semester. Ideal candidates will have a background in popular music or non-Western music and an interest in inclusivity and expanding diversity in music theory pedagogy.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ABD or terminal degree in music theory, composition, or a related field of music with appropriate specialization and experience.

  • At least one year of teaching experience at the college level teaching undergraduate music theory and/or ear-training courses as the primary instructor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of innovative and inclusive approaches to music theory pedagogy

  • Interest or research background in popular music and/or non-western musics.
