Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $23.8B, and another $10.5B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.

BEDC seeks to hire a Process Mechanical Intern for the In-house Design (IHD) directorate located in Queens, NY. Under supervision the selected candidate will be responsible for performance of elementary design work; assisting with the planning, coordination and implementation of the design and design during construction of capital projects; assisting with the evaluation of technical issues, design alternatives, and/or proposals; and preparation of technical reports and scope of work for engineering projects. Some anticipated projects include OH-112, PS-276, PS-236A, WI-284, and NCMCCSG.

Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
