Sr. Engineering Manager (Betterment Holdings, Inc. d/b/a Betterment, New York City, NY): Establishing and managing a team of software engineers that is focused on servicing a growing business line aimed at building new products that redefine how employers promote employee financial wellness; Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional stakeholders in order to develop a product roadmap for the software applications and functionality described above; Taking the insights gained and translating them into software development tasks for action by subordinate developers; Overseeing the development and ongoing maintenance of full-stack applications, distributed systems, and third-party software integration, using a variety of development tools and languages, such as Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript; Collaborating with other engineering teams, product managers, subject matter experts, and non-technical stakeholders; Overseeing the execution of smaller concurrent projects in partnership with senior engineers; Mentoring and contributing to the engineering growth and professional development of the team while ensuring that objectives and internal standards are met; Overseeing testing operations for developed applications and component and evaluating the results of those tests, with the objective of ensuring that products meet all quality and security standards, and function in a manner consistent with financial software; Ensuring on-time delivery for new features and that all software changes are implemented in a manner which provides for progress; Ensuring system stability and scale, with the ultimate aim of delivering a constantly-improving application experience that does not come at the cost of broader functionality; Advocating for selection, sequencing, and scoping of projects that allows the team to build toward our long term technical vision and maintain code health, often in collaboration with senior technical leaders; Advocating for headcount as necessary so that your teams are resourced appropriately to tackle their most important challenges. Continuously improve our hiring process by identifying and addressing bottlenecks in partnership with our recruiting team; Managing, mentoring and coach ICs up to Staff Engineers. Mentor and coach engineering managers. Help senior engineers explore both IC and manager responsibilities that prepare them for advancing in their careers; and Partnering with HRBPs to manage compensation for your team(s). In order to complete the above mentioned tasks, the following experience is required: Experience with hands-on managing, mentoring, and inspiring a team of talented engineers, including senior engineers; Experience building and maintaining full-stack applications, distributed systems, and third-party integrations; Experience with design patterns and database architecture; Experience working alongside product managers and UX designers; Experience with docker containers, Kubernetes; Experience with RESTful APIs; Experience with automated testing; Experience monitoring and capturing performance metrics using Datadog; Experience in languages/libraries like JavaScript, React, SQL, Swift; and Experience with Git. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field, and at least five (5) years of experience as a Software Engineer or related occupation.
