General Description
Reporting to the Director of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) under the Academic Affairs Division and in collaboration with the Adult and Continuing Education Division (ACE), the Community Outreach Specialist plays an integral role in connecting students and community members to LaGuardia Community College’s (LAGCC) mission.
The Community Outreach Specialist will provide outreach and CPL recruitment support and work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and ACE to ensure that prospective students know the benefits of CPL and encourage them to apply to LaGuardia.
Other Duties
Assist with developing LAGCC’S CPL outreach and recruitment strategy.
Actively recruit from our ACE to credit pipelines, Adult Basic Skills, and CLIP, CUNY Start by doing class presentations, information sessions, and participating in ACE events and through direct contact (phone calls, emails, mailings, social media, etc.)
Participate in campus and community wide events to promote LAGCC’s non-credit and credit college and career pathways.
Present LAGCC’s CPL programs and services at various speaking engagements, both in-person and virtually.
Follow up with event contacts/partner referrals and direct to appropriate CPL office staff.
Update and/or input all outreach data information as needed.
Screen interested candidates and coordinate with CPL staff on the candidate’s next steps in the application process.
Assist with and participate in CPL events.
Travel to all partner CBO sites and to various events across the five boroughs.
Manage weekly email communications to partners, ACE Alumni, and prospective students through Constant Contact.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum or 2 years of experience in education, community development, enrollment, or a relevant field
Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must have good customer service skills
High degree of integrity, professionalism, and punctuality for all events
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual a plus
Familiarity with community-based organizations, adult education agencies, unions, and/or veterans groups
Advisement Experience
Experience with Salesforce or other databases
Experience with Canva and/or Publisher
Knowledge of CUNY and its processes
