Position: Director Credit Strategist / US Fixed Income Sales & Trading / Global Banking and Markets

Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the US Fixed Income Sales and Trading / Global Banking and Markets in United States ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

As a member of the US Fixed Income and Sales / GBM in the United States, the primary role as a Desk Strategist is to provide analytical coverage to support the firm’s corporate trading and debt origination businesses. The ideal candidate should have sector knowledge in the Consumer, Industrial, and Retail sectors for primary coverage with the potential to support other sectors with the firm’s expansion.

Accountabilities

  • Maintain industry knowledge and expertise while covering primarily Investment Grade companies with some High Yield / Crossover companies in the various segments. This includes following key industry trends including geopolitical risks and factors impacting bond prices. Ongoing surveillance of companies may include meetings with management teams.

  • Support the trading desk by providing timely updates to the Trading and Sales team. This includes timely publications and participation in morning calls with sales and trading. In addition, provide analytical support to the firm’s Debt Capital Market efforts in assisting in the marketing of new issuance.

  • Advise and interact with Institutional clients with respect to relative value and trade ideas that will help grow the firm’s wallet share.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Industry expertise in the designated sector(s), preferably with a minimum of 3-7 years of experience.

  • B.S. in Finance and/or related fields. A higher degree or CFA is desired but not required.

  • Comply with all necessary compliance training requirements as part of the firm’s regulatory requirements. Maintain necessary licenses that include Series 7 and Series 63.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Bloomberg applications
