LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking motivated applicants for the title of Trades Apprentice.

Starting rate of pay is $16.06 per hour with an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • performs limited tasks relating to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting trades under close direction by a skilled tradesmen in each of these disciplines as part of ongoing “on-the-job” training

  • moving equipment, furniture and other items between buildings

  • work orders and special events

  • may assist other trades in routine inspections (plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, sign shop and painters)

  • follows all established and recommended procedures for the safe and effective operation of each piece of equipment

  • reports all unsafe situations immediately to supervisor or higher authority as needed to correct the condition as quickly as possible

  • properly and safely operates equipment used in daily tasks under guidance

  • This is a Civil Service Position.

  • This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.

  • Pre-employment Drug testing, Physical, and Criminal Background check are required.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from other entry or basic maintenance jobs by the performance of work directly subordinate to skilled tradesmen with the goal of preparing the incumbent for journeyman level status.

Differs from the journeyman level because it does not independently perform journeyman work in any trade.

Assists a journeyman level Trades Job in its assigned duties.

Performs limited skilled tasks under close direction of a journeyman in an on the job training program.

Participates in training as prescribed by an assigned journeyman or agency policy.
