  • This is a .8 of full-time position, working approximately 32 hours per week.

  • Monday - Friday regular schedule.

  • NOCCA is open to this being a 10, 11, or 12-month annual position, depending on the candidate's availability.

  • Additional hours are required for Orientation, Open Studio, Auditions, Grade Nights, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Senior Saturday, Homecoming Events, Graduation, Celebrations, Parent Night, Student Shows and Presentations, and Professional Development days.

  • Strong customer service orientation while interfacing with students, faculty, vendors, and visitors to the campus.

Reports to the Operations Manager in oversight of breakfast, lunch, and some light catering setup for special events. Enthusiasm for working independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that is characterized by continuous growth.

Preference will be given to candidates with prior food service experience. NOCCA will consider offering above the minimum for highly qualified candidate with exceptional experience, qualifications.

This position is responsible for overseeing the food service operations for student meals (breakfast and lunch) at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), within a fast-paced and diverse work environment. The role includes providing functional supervision to three classified NOCCA positions, specifically in tasks related to meal pick-up, set-up, and required documentation. Please note that while this role provides functional supervision, it does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of food service experience in a commercial, industrial, military or institutional food service operation which involved the actual preparation of food.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in food technology, food service management or in a food service related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

College credit in food and nutrition; dietetics; food service preparation; home economics; or hotel, food service, restaurant or institutional management will substitute for the required experience on the basis of one semester hour for one month of experience.

NOTE:

Preparation of food includes tasks such as cooking; baking; chopping vegetables or fruits; meat cutting/butcher duties; making salads, sandwiches, toast, or desserts; and short-order or fast food cooking such as frying or deep frying. It will not be necessary for classified employees to provide an official job description (SF-3), or to provide percentages of time spent preparing food. Describing food preparation tasks on the application will be sufficient. Experience which involved no food preparation, such as fast food cashiering and serving; or food service worker experience consisting only of serving, tray preparation, cleaning, washing dishes, and/or bussing tables will not qualify.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

  • Prepares fresh produce according to the franchise guidelines.

  • Thaws, marinates, and portions raw products.

  • Cooks, fries, sautés, and mixes raw products according to franchise operation recipes.

  • Properly garnishes food.

  • Serves food to customers.

  • Restocks serving line, beverage dispensers, and ice cream machines as needed.

  • Maintains food temperature and food use records.

  • Operates cash register and makes change.

  • Scrapes dishes and utensils, deposits garbage, and scrubs pots and heavy-duty cookware.

  • Dusts, sweeps, mops floors, and cleans windows.

  • Collects garbage and trash from work areas as needed and deposits in dumpster for collection and removal.

  • Cleans and sanitizes garbage containers.

  • Busses tables in the dining area.

  • Oversight of all aspects of New Orleans Center for Creative A11s Student Meal program.

  • Prepares schedule and assignment for civil service employees to pick-up and set-up up meals for service.

  • Prepares schedule for meal servers.

  • Provides direct training and assistance to meal servers on federal, state, and local regulations, meal set-up, meal service, and sanitation.

  • Forecasts number of meals to be served daily and places order with Food Service Provider.

  • Ensures that meal service is timely and is served as prescribed on menu.

  • Provides regular feedback on student's food preferences.

  • Ensures servers are correctly identifying and serving reimbursable meals.

  • Ensures account operation of the Point of Sale account system (POS).

  • Maintains inventory of stock for meal services and prepares orders for replenishing stock.

  • Maintains inventory of Health Snacks and places orders for replenishing stock.
