Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the large-scale storage and distribution of bulk fuels, chemicals, or other flammable or toxic liquids; OR
A bachelor’s degree in petroleum or chemical engineering plus three years of experience in the large-scale storage and distribution of bulk fuels, chemicals, or other flammable or toxic liquids.

Function of Work:
To supervise the storage, operations, maintenance, receipt, and distribution of petroleum products, Mogas/Avgas, Diesel, and Jet Fuel for an airport.
Level of Work:
Supervisor.
Supervision Received:
General from Airport Director.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct over unclassified Airport Fuels Attendants.
Location of Work:
Primarily used by Ports and Levee Boards, but can be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Airport Director by the absence of responsibility for directing all airport activities for an airport.
Differs from Airport Assistant Director by the absence of responsibility for serving as primary assistant to the Airport Director.
Differs from Airport Manager by the presence of responsibility for supervising the storage, operations, maintenance, receipt, and distribution of petroleum products, Mogas/Avgas, Diesel and Jet Fuel for an airport.
Examples of Work
Directs and coordinates all operations associated with the receipt, storage, and distribution of aviation fuels.
Supervises inspections and evaluates fuel storage, piping, and electronic control devices.
Develops normal usage patterns by fixed-based operators and other contract users in order to determine annual fuel flowage requirements.
Supervises the use of scientific/electronic instruments to perform testing and inspections of all fuel products and equipment including white bucket and Millipore testing procedures.
Supervises the fuel sampling of storage vessels for water contamination.
Supervises the inspection of petroleum retailers, jobbers, and distributors to ensure compliance of products to specific octane and specific ratings, and dispensing equipment with state law.
Directs the clean up of fuel spills. Coordinates with the E.P.A. and other entities on preventive measures to protect the environment from fuel spills.
Participates in the development of safety procedures.
Supervises and monitors the implementation of safety procedures to ensure compliance with agency standards, and state and federal rules and regulations.
Attends formal training sessions concerning fuel storage and safety.
Meets with government officials, government agency groups, private industrial officials, and others on matters relating to the operations of the airport fuels farm.
Prepares and maintains records and reports or work orders, inventory records, special reports, payroll data, maintenance records, and fuel spills and leakage reports.
Supervises the preparation of safety records, and reports of testings and inspections to meet agency standards, and rules and regulations of the federal aviation administration, associated petroleum industry, and the environmental protection administration.
