Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aCopper Test Engineering Support Technicianto join theData Center Power & Control Division Teamin New London, CT.Performs standard testing processes on a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment and records and analyzes results. Records data from testing in standard formats and provides results to product and engineering teams. Assists technical teams with recommendations to resolve testing problems, roadblocks, or equipment malfunctions that impact the performance or validity of testing. Requires knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment.

What Will You Do?

  • Conducts R&D testing of existing and new product designs for both internal and external customers. Maintains continuous communications with design staff regarding test progress and results. Provides recommendations to engineering design staff for design improvements.

  • Conducts electrical / mechanical agency certification testing. Provides timely product introduction to market for new products, design enhancements, and cost reductions by maintaining a professional relationship with agency engineers and inspectors during certification investigations.

  • Creates, maintains, and presents test reports with summaries and analysis.

  • Utilizes, remains familiar with, and maintains agency (UL, TIA, CSA, IEC, etc.) publications and requirements.

  • Performs lab maintenance and testing methods. Recommends improvements to test methods and procedures, as needed.

  • Maintains, calibrates, and repairs all lab equipment and equipment certifications.

  • Designs, constructs, and improves testers, fixtures, and procedures as required.

  • Assists in design concepts, prototyping, and product improvement efforts.

  • Maintains organization, safety, and cleanliness of labs.

  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Education:

  • Typically requires an associate degree (Electro-Mechanical) or equivalent experience.

    Experience:

  • Typically requires 1-3 years of related experience in an Electrical / Mechanical testing environment. Test experience in structured cabling industry a plus.

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Engineering Support

  • Experience with hardware test equipment and tools (i.e. Network Analyzer, digital multimeter, soldering station, spectrum analyzer), mechanical measurement systems (vision system, dimensional measurements, force tester, temperature chamber), and 3D Printers. Must have manual dexterity to handle and solder small parts.

  • Must be able to work efficiently and safely when testing devices on test systems. Must be able to understand, interpret, and follow test standards.

  • Must comprehend design concepts and components used in low voltage and electronic circuits.

  • Must have strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, data base software, e-mail, and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively. Programming experience with LabView or SolidWorks experience a plus.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be-able-to effectively handle multiple priorities.

  • Must possess project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a-number-of projects at various stages of work.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be-able-to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.

  • Must have strong scientific analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.

  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment. Fosters open communication and support an environment of innovation and creative change.

  • Travel negligible.
