Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Counselor for The School of Nursing. This position will report to the Director of Undergraduate Advisement.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Provides academic advisement for undergraduate students in the School of Nursing with a focus on student retention and persistence.
  • Provides academic advising using multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, workshops, and individual and group advising.
  • Serves as an active member of the Advising Center team by attending meetings, participating in key semester events (registration, add/drop, withdrawals, progression review, onboarding, and graduation), and contributing to departmental and divisional goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with other departments within the School of Nursing and assists in the following responsibilities: advisement, onboarding, transfer credits, program audits, graduation, and other functions as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2 years of related experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Education, or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Higher Education, Social Science, Counseling preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Must possess the ability and desire to acquire new technical expertise as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (I.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) email, and web browser, along with industry-specific software is essential.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing.
