Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking multiple Postdoctoral Associates for the Medical Oncology division of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).The Post-Doctoral Associate positions are available in the areas of gastrointestinal cancer and
cellular/molecular biology, tumor microenvironment/immunology, mouse models of cancer and translational research at CINJ. The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Associate position is to conduct research investigation in the following areas under the supervision of the Principal Investigator: i) signaling pathways downstream of KRAS that mediate cross-talk between pancreatic cancer cells and the stromal microenvironment including immune cells and fibroblasts; ii) the immunosuppressive microenvironment in pancreatic tumors and identification of novel therapeutic targets to increase efficacy of immune checkpoint therapy and chemotherapy; iii) identification and functional validation of novel genes and pathways driving initiation, metastasis and therapeutic resistance of gastrointestinal cancers.
The position provides opportunities to study within multidisciplinary groups and be involved in clinical/translational research collaborations. The Post-Doctoral Associate is expected to perform research experiments, and analysis of a specialized nature under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator with the goal of establishing an innovative, collaborative research program. Qualified candidates must be in the process of completing training for PhD and/or MD graduate degrees with a strong publication record.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts research experiments to understand the above mentioned areas related to gastrointestinal cancer and tumor microenvironment/immunology, cellular and molecular biology, mouse models of cancer and translational research using human biospecimens.
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments for inclusion in manuscripts and grant proposals under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
  • Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted under the supervision of Principal Investigator.
  • Gives oral and poster presentations of the research at local, national and international meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in the biological sciences (immunology, cell or molecular biology, cancer biology or related discipline) along with strong background in cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  • Qualified candidates must be in the process of completing or have finished the training for Ph.D. and/or M.D. Candidates must provide proof all requirements have been fulfilled before their position start date
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Candidates should be capable of working independently and have excellent communication and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mouse experiments and multiplex flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing would be an advantage.
  • Experience in basic bioinformatics is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.

  • Candidates will work in an inter-disciplinary, productive and highly collaborative environment and interact with basic scientists, computational biologists, translational researchers and clinicians as part of a NCI designated comprehensive cancer center.
