Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Classroom Assistant II for the Graduate School of Applied Professional Psychology (GSAPP).Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Works within the center-based setting, typically a classroom or job site, implementing educational, behavioral, vocational and leisure programming.
  • Assists in maintaining the daily records and materials for client.
  • Assists in the routine maintenance and organization of the classroom or work group.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working well with children or adults with autism who are educationally, physically and behaviorally challenged.
  • Valid Driver's license, two years of driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, have effective client service skills, and have the ability to instruct and provide support to the specific student population.
  • Competent communication skills.
  • Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Ability to use specialized instructional and/or record-keeping instruments.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be physically active and be on feet most of the day.
  • Duties may involve running and physically interacting with individuals with Autism (Adults 21 years plus).
  • Following training must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management. techniques including restraining, lifting, blocking individuals with challenging behavior.
  • Crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about.
