Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Assistant Dean III for the Office of Academic Services. The Assistant Dean III for Transfer Student Services reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of the Office of Academic Services and the Assistant Dean and Director for Transfer Student Services. The Assistant Dean III is a member of the specialized staff concentrating on transfer students. They are expected to provide high-level, creative insight into developing and refining appropriate programs and other services that meet the special needs of this group of undergraduates.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Communicates effectively with students through various methods to ensure a successful transition to the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Evaluates transfer students' academic records and ensures that the proposed transfer courses are in compliance with applicable state law and University and SAS policies.
  • Interacts extensively with chairs and other faculty in academic departments in order to make informed decisions about whether to approve transfer credit.
  • Responsible for evaluating continuing students' requests for transfer credit, including reviewing the pre-approval applications.
  • Responsible for selecting, training, and evaluating transfer students to serve as Transfer Mentors.
  • Monitors the dedicated transfer email box and ensuring that responses to students' inquiries are done accurately and on a timely basis. Is charged with supervising the officers, guiding the student group, and planning and implementing the induction ceremony for the Tau Sigma National Honor Society, an honor society devoted to transfer students.
  • Provides accurate and sound academic advising to students who come to the SAS Advising Centers.
  • Participates in Office of Academic Services programs and processes, as well as presentations to the university community.
  • Participates in university-wide, SAS-wide, and OAS-wide duties and functions and to provide coordination, advice, and supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a minimum of a master's degree and a minimum of three years' experience in an academic affairs/advising setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across the university with the goal of providing outstanding service to transfer students, as well as the general student population.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be comfortable communicating via social media channels.
  • Must have working knowledge of all Office applications and be able to learn new systems at a rapid pace.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail to successfully work with a large, complex, and varied student population.
  • Is expected to be knowledgeable about all aspects of undergraduate student services and be an authority on all issues regarding transfer student services.
  • Is expected to interact professionally and compassionately with all undergraduate students, as well as their parents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers five years' experience in an academic affairs/advising setting.
Equipment Utilized
  • IMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas, Salesforce, WebNow, Perceptive Content, MyAdvisor, Zoom, WebEx and Degree Navigator are used in a daily capacity in desktop and web-based platforms.
  • Various customized databases are used daily.
