TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E283 Transportation Engineer II-IV in NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer II Assists in developing and monitoring budgets.Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Responsible for Highway Emergency Response Operations/Courtesy Patrol.Responsible for Incident Management.Trains engineering staff.Assists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staff.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIIn addition to the duties listed aboveAnalyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement conditions.Responsible for a pavement management program.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IVIn addition to the duties listed aboveAnalyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Maintains a critical bridge list and coordinates with the Bridge Division, area engineers and other district staff on critical findings involving state maintained bridges to have them posted, repaired and closed to the traveling public.Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
