Craven County Government Public Health Nurse II - Maternity Postpartum (10377) in New Bern, North Carolina
Primary Purpose
This position will provide direct patient care to Craven County Health Department Maternity and Postpartum clients.
Essential Functions
40% Regular Maternity Clinic: Interview patient for family/patient medical history patients contraceptive history, menstrual history, pregnancy history and sexual history. Instruct patient in use of prenatal vitamins and iron supplement, if prescribed. Obtain consent forms for release of other facilities medical records if indicated. Explain Craven County Health Department informed consent and obtain signature. Educate patients on clinic, anatomy, medication, s/s of labor, preterm labor, and danger signs. Prepare patient for physical exams by Advanced Practice Provider, educate patient with ongoing discussion of contraceptive options, preterm labor, s/s of labor, etc. Update screening questions, address any problems, discuss with Advanced Practice Provider. Review Advanced Practice Providers instruction with patient. Assist with referrals. Chart labs and record ultrasounds. Perform NST as needed.
35% High-Risk Clinic: Prepare patient for physical exams by Advanced Practice Provider, educate patient with ongoing discussion of contraceptive options, preterm labor, s/s of labor, etc. Update screening questions, address any problems, discuss with Advanced Practice Provider. Review providers instruction with patient. Assist with referrals. Chart labs and record ultrasounds. Perform NSTs as needed.
24% Postpartum Visits/Obtaining Referrals: The postpartum nurse will go to Carolina East Medical Center, Labor and Delivery Unit daily, to review a list of patients that have delivered. The nurse is responsible for following up with all CCHD Maternity clients scheduling postpartum exams, cesarean delivery follow-ups, BP follow-ups, and ensuring new mothers have a pediatrician appointment scheduled for their newborn.
1% Additional Support:In the event of a disaster, will be assigned to a Red Cross Shelter to function as a Health Care Professional. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
- Valid Driver's license required.
