Craven County Government Licensed Practical Nurse II - Child Health Immunization (10392) in New Bern, North Carolina
Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to administer immunizations to children 0-18 years of age and tracking immunization compliance for Craven County children.
Essential Functions
50%Immunization Administration and Follow Up
- Administers age-appropriate immunizations according to local and state guidelines.
- Counsels parents / guardians on benefits and side effects of immunizations according to state and local guidelines.
- Assists with delinquent follow up.
- Documents care provided according to local protocol.
- Compiles immunization reports.
- Order vaccines as needed
45%Assist in the Child Health Primary Care Clinic
- In the absence of the Child Health LPN II, return needed phone calls to patients, pharmacies.
- Review records prior to health care providers exam for other health care needs, i.e.: immunizations, well exam needs, delinquent follow-up needs.
- Assist with any procedures that need to be done in the clinic setting.
- Assist in keeping an even flow of patients to the clinic area to prevent bottlenecks.
- Responsible for maintaining clinic emergency cart/O2/isolation room log on a monthly rotation with other clinic nurses.
4%Outreach
- Performs immunization tracking in private physicians offices that receive state-supplied vaccines.
- Works in health fairs and schools administering immunizations when needed.
1%Other Duties
- In the event of a disaster, may be required to assist as needed, including acting as a health professional in a shelter.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by Supervisor and/or Management.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education and one year of practical nurse experience, which includes advanced or in-service training in the area to which assigned; or graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education including a pharmacology course, or completion of an approved pharmacology course upon graduation which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for administration of medications required by the work setting; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Licensed to practice as a practical nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
