Job description: 1. Weld metals together using gas or electric welding. 2. Install, repair, replace and maintain various metal components of fleet vehicles or equipment. 3. Prepare materials for welding and maintains supply levels for various materials. 4. May braze, solder and grind in the fabrication of metal parts or materials. 5. Perform other mechanical tasks associated with performance of duties. 6. Read blueprints or specifications to properly weld components. 7. Fabricate, assemble, and replace fencing around properties owned by the city. 8. Assist with snow and ice removal. 9. Operate overhead crane. 10. Assist with general labor duties on each job site as required. 11. Provide effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community and working relations. 12. Perform related work as required and assigned. Special Requirements ? Subject to Mandatory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Investigation) ? Possession of a valid CDL Class B. Education and Experience ? Technical Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Facility Management, or a related field. ? At least five years of experience in building, carpentry, or engineering trades. ? Or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensing/Certifications ? Possession of a valid Massachusetts driver?s license and good driving record. Required Skills and Abilities ? Understand and carry out instructions. ? Work independently and multi-task. ? Knowledge of welding techniques and proper maintenance of equipment used for welding. ? Determine welding issues that need to be immediately addressed and assess parts inventory to complete the tasks. ? Perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. ? Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public. ? Knowledge of occupational hazards and the proper safety methods and procedures used to avoid or minimize risks. ? Fabricating parts, creating missing or damaged pieces for fleet vehicles and equipment, and building fixtures. ? All types of metals and materials that can be welded together using different welding techniques. Tools and Equipment Used ? All welding related tools, Forklift, hand, and power tools.
