The Position

Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

Tax Managers lead a section comprised of subordinate managers, supervisors, individual contributors, and support staff to manage specific Tax Programs in support of the Executive Strategic Plan. Taxation's Tax Managers are the main contact for communications between Executive Team and staff. Tax Managers are responsible for management of the assigned section activities and operations and are accountable for the section's success as measured by Key Performance Indicators and Measures, public and taxpayer relations, and synergy with other Department areas. Tax Managers develop and recommend the biennial budget related to section activities and monitor expenses to ensure compliance with approved budget limitations. This Tax Manager position is assigned to Excise in the Excise and Local Government Services Division and reports directly to the Excise and Local Government Deputy Director. The Excise Section is comprised of the Liquor Tax/Commerce Tax/ Investigations, along with the Cigarettes/Other Tobacco Products/Master Settlement Agreement, and the General Excise Taxes/Deferral and Abatement. These positions provide general and specific assistance with various tax types and programs that the Department administers. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance or related field and five years of professional level experience in accounting, auditing and/or tax administration programs involving interpretation and application of statutory provisions, including three years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
