The Position

Social Services Chiefs manage the overall design, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs.

Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

The Social Services Chief I position resides with the Nevada Division of Health Care Financing and Policy within the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is responsible for management and oversight of Medicaid Compliance Hearings and Document Control teams, under the general direction of the Compliance Social Services Chief III, with a combined total of 10 staff. The position acts as a liaison with the Department of Administration's Hearings Unit for Medicaid provider, recipient, and eligibility hearings. Responsibilities include oversight of the Division's Fair Hearings process to ensure compliance with provider and recipient rights to due process; representing the Division at Fair Hearings presided over by an Administrative Law Judge; oversight of the Division's Document Control team to ensure policies, forms, and communications are updated and maintained, including the State Plan and Agency manuals; facilitating public hearings for adoption of policy and State Plan Amendments. This position requires travel both in-state and out-of-state as needed, but no more than 25% of the time. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public or business administration or related field and three years of professional social services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpreting and applying complex federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
