The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Assist in developing, drafting and updating state regulation and in advancing regulations through the established process. Conduct public meetings and workshops, taking minutes of meetings. Work on special projects that help the objective of the Bureaus long and short term goals. Monitor RCRA EPA grants and submit authorizations and applications. Coordinate and prepare the approval of contracts, review and approve contract invoices. Track state and federal solid and hazardous waste issues daily and distribute federal register notices. Assist with developing and monitoring the bureau biennial budget. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

This position has a 25% travel requirement.
