The Position

Correctional Sergeants and Lieutenants have charge of an assigned watch or major area in a State correctional institution/facility and supervise subordinate officers to ensure the safe custody,discipline and welfare of inmates.

Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health Lake's Crossing Center in Sparks, NV, a maximum-security facility for mentally disordered offenders, is recruiting for a Correctional Lieutenant position. Under the direction of the Agency Director, the Correctional Lieutenant directly supervises seven (7) Forensic Specialist IV's. This position will have administrative responsibility for planning, organizing, supervising and assisting with subordinate staff, maintaining the overall security of the facility by developing, implementing and adhering to policies and procedures. This position will serve as a member of the treatment team and sponsor clients and will also conduct internal investigations as assigned by the Director. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

One year of work experience as a Correctional Sergeant in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Notes

Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Positions within this series, at the Division of Public & Behavioral Health, will require incumbents to obtain and maintain certification as a Mental Health Technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment. Positions within this series, at the Division of Public & Behavioral Health, are required to supervise Forensic Specialist positions as assigned.

Special Requirements

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
