The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Plant Health and Compliance, Plant Pathology program is seeking to fill a full-time Agriculturist I (underfill to an Agriculturist 2) position in Sparks, NV. Under the supervision of the plant pathologist, the incumbent will perform a broad range of diagnostic testing using microbiological, serological, molecular, and DNA-based methods. This position is also responsible for executing the National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) Laboratory Quality Management System to meet and maintain the NPDN accreditation standards. Additional responsibilities include crop inspections and survey for plant diseases, diagnostic data entry and extraction, and data uploading. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience which provided experience in regulatory agricultural programs such as seed certification, pest control licensing, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical inspection and enforcement experience related to agricultural programs.Special Requirements
