Job Description

The Second Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch has an immediate opening for a Judicial Specialist 2 position in the Story County Clerk of Court office in Nevada, Iowa. This position will perform clerical support for Judges, Attorneys, and Litigants under the direct supervision of an Assistant District Court Administrator.

The starting salary for new State employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The starting pay for this position is $18.59 hourly / $38,667.20 annually. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.

Location: Story County, Nevada, IA

Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P

Under the direct supervision of court administration, and specifically an Assistant District Court Administrator, this Judicial Support position will be assigned to assist various District Associate Judges within the Second District. Responsibilities of this position include providing clerical support for Judges and to troubleshoot, operate, and monitor electronic recording equipment when recording court events. In this role, you will travel within the Second Judicial District, as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.

Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience. Must be bondable.
