The Lab Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operations of assigned sections or shifts; carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization policy and applicable laws.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Lab Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Testing Programs: Design and implement a comprehensive, standardized student laboratory program for the FMCSMLS.
Clinical Operations: Oversees data management systems and all student laboratory instrumentation.
Instrument Responsibilities: Troubleshoots instrumentation failures.
Policies and Procedures: Coordinates the implementation of new administrative protocols, policies and procedures
Regulatory Compliance: Properly organizes and maintains all documentation pertaining to QC for Point of Care testings. Maintains SOP manuals to meet regulatory requirements.
Properly organizes and maintains all documentation pertaining to NAACLS reaccreditation.
Maintains manuals to meet accreditation requirements.
Manages and/or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of students.
Creates and sustains an environment that fosters student engagement.
Establishes clear objectives tied to school and/or organizational strategic goals.
Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of students.
Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested.
Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology/Medical Lab Science or a related biological science.
A minimum 5 years experience in a hospital-based medical laboratory
Basic lab skills including laboratory math for dilutions and concentration techniques.
Ability to operate basic lab equipment including centrifuges, incubators, microscopes, pipettors, and spectrophotometer.
Phlebotomy skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Experience in a hospital based medical laboratory science program.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- ASCP and/or CLS(NCA) Certification.
