Position Summary/Description:

The licensed therapist provides individual and group therapy and assessment; supervision and training of medical providers and practicum students; program development and evaluation; quality improvement initiatives; and contributes to scholarship. The therapist plays an important role in health education and behavior change for patients through the tobacco treatment in inpatient, outpatient and worksite settings. The therapist is administratively responsible through the Director of the UNC Tobacco Treatment & Weight Management Programs at UNC Family Medicine. Successful candidates must be professionally licensed or license eligible to practice social work or equivalent degree in the State of North Carolina.

Education and Experience:

Full licensure such as LCSW is preferred. Current knowledge of field of practice and its standards; commitment to the practice of quality mental health services including a commitment to human value in that practice; ability to work with other professional staff and support staff to produce integrated professional services; delivery of evidence-based interventions; understanding of issues of diversity with demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism. Preference for someone with a National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice, experience in tobacco treatment counseling and multidisciplinary health care settings, experience in brief substance use treatment modalities (e.g.: SBIRT ), working with populations with chronic disease and/or experience in weight management counseling.

Essential Skills:

Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Social Work or equivalent licensure board.
